Given the low mortgage rates of the past, many homeowners are on the fence about selling their homes and moving somewhere else. This is because the mortgage rates have doubled in 2022 and homeowners want to maintain their low rates. If you are on the fence about whether you should sell your home, here are some other factors that may help you decide.

The National Association of Realtors (NAR) has made a list of important reasons that other sellers decided to move. The first reason is moving closer to family. This was also listed as the most common cause for people deciding to move. In many cases due to the recent pandemic, a lot of people have decided they want to live closer to their families for a variety of reasons. 

The following reason that people are moving is due to retirement. Among the reasons many consider a move is the desire to downsize. When children move out and the need for day-to-day living space is not as great, this can be a great opportunity to consider purchasing a smaller - - or just a different style - - of home. The other common reason is just simply wanting to go live somewhere new – like Florida – during retirement. 

The third reason is related to the neighborhood local. Over time, neighborhoods can change or the reasons for living in particular neighborhood changes.  For couples with young children, the desire to live in a neighborhood with better access to good schools or that has more parks or walking trails might be desirable. Conversely, once your children get older and move on to other horizons, you might be in search of a quieter neighbor that’s closer to community resources or that’s more rural. 

Finally, the last reason many homeowners are moving is that their current home no longer fits their family and they need to move to somewhere better equipped to handle their specific familial needs.
